This is a cane arrow container or quiver of the Ashanti of West Africa. It is made from a large section of natural cane hewn with an iron blade. It is 27 1/4" long and the top is recessed for a basket weave lid which is no longer with it. It dates to about 1900 and has a very heavy surface encrustation from years of use and handling.
