170 YEAR OLD ANTIQUE EUROPEAN SWORD

This is a sword of a type called a briquet. The French used them first in the Napoleonic period and after Waterloo, many countries updated their weapons to deal with changing military tactics. The briquet was adopted as a standard pattern for many of the Continental states and principalities which later united as Germany. This one dates to about 1830 and has a 31 3/8 inch curved blade and one piece hilt with ribbed grip. It still has its Sothebys property tag from the 1980’s when it was sold. Condition is as shown.
