Single gray Roman bead, large, 9.4 mm (.37"), in condition as shown. They are hand wound and all vary somewhat as expected. The brown coloration is from the flint found in the area and is similar to carnelian which the Romans valued. Those who know the area , know that the downs are made of chalk and the rest is flint. Even the beaches are of stones, not sand. These are rare artifacts of Roman England.
