This is a bead made from polished spondalus shell. It is .64” (16.3mm) long, and to give you an idea of how much work was involved to produce this with only primitive hand tools..

These four natural gem stone beads are a triple rarity. First, they date from the Old Kingdom period in Egypt, about 2686-2134 BC.

Each bead is approximately .15"(3.8mm) and faceted. As with all ancient polished gem stone beads and can be seen in the images, the facets are somewhat irregular, indicative of hand work.
