ANCIENT 4000 YO ANTIQUE EGYPTIAN COPPER BEAD ANTIQUE

Metal beads are among the rarest of ancient beads both because they were rare to begin with and that most climates caused them to deteriorate from corrosion.  The Egyptian desert is an exception and the availability of well preserved Egyptian artifacts is due largely to climate.  This is an ancient Egyptian copper bead from the Old Kingdom, dating to about 2650-2134  BC.   It is 10.1 mm (under 3/8") long and made from hammered copper, rolled with a seam and hammer textured in facets.  When new, it would have been polished right like a new penny and glittered.  It now has a fine rich patina with no green oxidation as usually found on copper or bronze artifacts.   This is a very rare addition to any antiquities collection or modern jewelry creation.  7A6
