ANTIQUE EGYPTIAN AMULET OF ISIS-1

Isis was the mother God as well as many other titles which embody just about every attribute for a Goddess. She was worshiped universally throughout Egypt from the Middle Kingdom on and was reinvented and renamed by the Romans and Greeks as well as other Mediterranean cultures. The Egyptian worshiped her in many ways including the wearing of amulets. In 18th century, a cultural tour of Europe and the Middle East, know as the Grand Tour, was considered essential to completing the higher education of the noble class. Grand Tours lasted from months to years and naturally involved the acquisition of cultural relics as souvenirs. In Egypt, copies of important relics were produced and sold as genuine. At auction is a fine amulet of Isis wearing the sacred aegis. It is green faience and over 1.73" high 44.1mm. It is about 250 years old, produced to satisfy the needs of European tourists in Egypt in the 18th century. It is a genuine antique and if dating to the ancient era, would be valued in the thousands. It is pierced and may be worn or incorporated into a modern jewelry creation. Condition is as shown.amu2
