This is the small dagger called a kozuka which is kept in the scabbard along with the samurai long and shorts swords. It had a beautifully fashioned handle which matched the sword mounts, from which it is removable for use without the handle. This is the removed blade. Years ago, we found a collection of these from a “fitting” collector who removed the blades and displayed the handles alone in kiri wood boxes. That was often done and because the blades are plain far fewer than handles have survived. Total length is 6 7/8” . Condition is as shown. 10d
