Item Number: rsp1

The technology of glass crafting had advanced enormously with the Romans and the boom was like the introduction of plastic in the 1950's; After making the requirements of the day, small left over pieces of semi molten glass were sometimes squeezed into simple forms and pierced with a hole to be worn as pendants. This was the very bottom of the jewelry chain and most often were given to slaves who had no ability otherwise to purchase such things. They were deliberately very low key-made of dark unpretentious colors and very simply shaped. This is such a pendant dating to about 200 BC. It is 0.68" (17.2 mm) long, made of white glass and simply shaped and faceted with the glass maker's paddle. Condition is as shown and indicative of having been buried, probably in a grave.
