Vikings settled in Jorvik (now York, England) in 866 and in the following years, occupied about half of what is now England. They farmed and established manufacturing centers where a variety of items including beads were produced. Beads were vary valuable at that time. The Vikings especially valued them and often took beads as tribute. For auction is a Viking carnelian pendant from the York area dating C.866-1067 AD. It is round and a major piece of jewelry at 11.4 mm, .45". The pendant is mounted on a 18" Sterling silver chain. This is a Viking classic and fine addition to any antiquity collection or modern jewelry creation. bss6
